Did you know that today April 22, 2016 is actually Earth day? I never knew until a random feed showed up on my Timeline (Facebook) and it actually got me thinking…

earthday

“What can I actually do to contribute to a positive change?”

(Earth day is an annual global event that is held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. April 22 marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970)

At first, I thought, maybe I should try planting at least something and was stuck for a quite awhile thinking of what particular type of plant to grow. At this point, tomato is all that comes to mind and so the idea was immediately sent flying into the bin.

If it’s for a positive change for the sake of the earth and its inhabitants, I would prefer to do an act that will have a lingering/lasting impact even if it’s not immediate.

My initial idea was planting, it’s the same principle but I won’t need an actual seed that can be bought from your local garden supply. I want to start “planting” awareness about global/environmental issues using Social Media as my garden bed. Such as the one below:

  • Global warming, as many of us have already witnessed and felt is causing massive panic around the world due to the negative changes it brought. A good example would be the unexpected weather patterns which include drought resulting to loss of yield and income in agriculture. Flora and fauna sometimes fail to adapt to their original habitat causing them to die out unless they are able to move to another area where not much is left since we humans seem to take every space that we can get. How about those people who have limited access to clean water or perhaps areas that rely on water to grow food? That is just the tip of the iceberg.

Now that I have done part of my mission, it is up to you, my readers, to decide whether you ignore my “plant” otherwise you can choose to nurture it so that together, we can all enjoy the fruits that it will bear in the future.
